The café across the road was The Pine Room, which later became famous as The Globe and the first place you could get a decent cup of coffee in Christchurch … but as The Pine Room, the counter was on the left and it was gingham tablecloths and sausage rolls, a very pleasant place to go and a lot of people went there.
