Bonnington and Co Ltd, Manufacturing Chemists, was established in 1872 in a shop on Colombo Street and moved to 225 – 227 High Street on the buildings completion in 1883. Bonnington's Chemist was a well-known chemist during the 19th century due to the popularity of Bonnington's Irish Moss. Bonnington's cough and cold remedies continue to be produced to this day.
