Galaxy Records Building

Listen to this story
In about 2006/2007 the building got strengthened, and to the best of my knowledge that building is staying so it’s going to be one of the few remaining examples of that period.

The Italianate Criterion House at 225-227 High Street was originally built for Bonnington’s Chemists and Black Beattie & Co Drapers who both occupied the building.  Black Beatties premises occupied the two top floors. They were the first retailer in the southern hemisphere to have a pneumatic cashier machine installed.
